Suleika Jaouad
Emmy-Award-Winning journalist and New York Times best-selling author
Monday, September 19, 2022
Suleika Jaouad (pronounced Su-lake-uh Ja-wad) is the author of the instant New York Times bestselling memoir, Between Two Kingdoms. She wrote the Emmy Award-winning New York Times column “Life, Interrupted” and her reported features and essays have appeared in The New York Times Magazine, The Atlantic, The Guardian, Vogue, and NPR, among other publications. A highly sought-after speaker, her mainstage TED Talk was one of the ten most popular of 2019 and has nearly five million views. She is also the creator of the Isolation Journals, a community creativity project founded during the Covid-19 pandemic to help others convert isolation into artistic solitude; over 100,000 people from around the world have joined.
Born in New York City to a Tunisian father and a Swiss mother, Suleika attended The Juilliard School's pre-college program for the double bass, and earned her BA with highest honors from Princeton University and an MFA in writing and literature from Bennington College. Suleika’s career aspirations as a foreign correspondent were cut short when, at age 22, she was diagnosed with leukemia. She began writing her New York Times column “Life, Interrupted” from her hospital room at Sloan-Kettering, and has since become a fierce advocate for those living with illness and enduring life’s many other interruptions.
Suleika served on Barack Obama's Presidential Cancer Panel, the national advisory board of Family Reach and the Bone Marrow and Cancer Foundation, and the Brooklyn Public Library’s Arts & Letters Committee. She was awarded the Red Door Advocacy & Community Service Award, and has been an artist in residence at Ucross, ArtYard, and the Kerouac Project.
Suleika travels the world teaching workshops and speaking, and she was an Anacapa Scholar in Residence at the Thacher School and a lecturer in the Narrative Medicine Program at Columbia University. She has appeared on the Today Show, NPR's Talk of the Nation, the Paris Review, the Los Angeles Times and Glamour, among others.
Kelsey Tainsh
Entrepreneur, philanthropist, and professional motivational speaker
Thursday, September 22, 2022
Kelsey Tainsh has been through more in her 31 years than most will endure in a lifetime. Successfully overcoming a brain tumor at only 5 years of age, Kelsey went on to be a happy, healthy kid and a champion athlete. 10 years later, at 15, it all came crashing down when the tumor returned followed by a crippling stroke. Her friends had disappeared, her right side didn’t function and she became paralyzed with fear and self-doubt. Despite her significant physical challenges, she worked hard to pull herself up and charged back into life graduating magna cum laude from the University of Florida and going on to work for one of the most recognized companies in the world, The Coca-Cola Company.
Today, this remarkable young woman has become a champion for the rest of us. An acclaimed professional speaker, Kelsey travels the country speaking to organizations and corporations about the power of persistence and perspective. Her clients include: the Society of Pediatric Nurses, Atrius Health, Harvard Medical School, Boston Children’s Hospital, WellSpan Gettysburg Hospital and The Coca-Cola Company to name a few.

The Call for 2022 Proposals is Now Closed. Our 2023 Call will be opening Fall of 2022!
Each year ARN accepts session proposals for ARN's Rehabilitation Nursing Conference, which typically takes place in the Fall. Take this opportunity to demonstrate innovations in advanced nursing practice and disseminate new evidence to nurses across the country!
As information is made available related to the upcoming call, it will be posted to this page. Please check this page frequently for updates!
Submission Types
Abstracts can be submitted for the following types of presentations:
- Paper: These 20-minute oral presentations, including a Q&A session, should apply to one or more of the following categories and include a discussion of the project’s implications for clinical practice, education, leadership, or future research: clinical, research/scientific, or other.
- Case study: These 25-minute oral presentations should describe a specific clinical issue and demonstrate the implementation of creative, innovative, and evidence-based solutions to that complex patient care problem. To foster audience participation, abstract submissions also should include two questions the authors will post to the audience during a 5-minute Q&A.
- Keynote: Keynote sessions are based on a main underlying theme that will spark the interest of the rehabilitation nursing community. Proposals for these sessions should include one to three key concepts or takeaways and speak to the author’s experience and credibility in the subject matter described.
- Preconference or postconference add-ons: These educational programs and activities take place before or after the main conference and can range in duration from one hour to more than a day.
- Poster: Posters are visual presentations of clinical or research data. In-person poster presenters must be available onsite to present during poster exhibition sessions. Proposals for virtual posters also will be accepted.
- General education: Typically 1 to 1.5 hours in length, general education sessions address a single subject pertinent to rehabilitation nursing. These sessions should promote learning and actively engage learners. General education sessions may include more than one speaker.
Review the ARN 2022 Submission Instructions and FAQs for the complete abstract submission guidelines and criteria. These guidelines are updated each year.
Review and Selection Process
In addition to the session-specific criteria described in the submission instructions above, reviewers will evaluate session proposals based on the desired learning outcomes of the Rehabilitation Nursing Conference:
- Learning Outcome 1: Examine state-of-the-art approaches to improving rehabilitation patient care and outcomes
- Learning Outcome 2: Apply strategic knowledge about current issues facing rehabilitation nurses and the healthcare industry
- Learning Outcome 3: Incorporate evidence-based interventions into practice for the rehabilitation of patients with a variety of diagnoses
Paper, case study, and poster presentations: Each qualifying proposal will undergo a double-blind review by a minimum of three volunteer ARN members selected by the Conference Planning Committee abstract co-chairs. Proposals that do not fulfill all requirements will not be reviewed.
Other sessions: The Conference Planning Committee will review all other qualifying submissions.
