Live Remote Proctoring for the CRRN Exam
In 2021, candidates will have two options for taking the CRRN examination:
- In-person at a local testing center
- Live remote proctoring at home using a personal computer
The RNCB, in conjunction with Scantron, has partnered with Examity to support live remote proctoring.
How does live remote proctoring work?
Live remote proctoring allows you to connect to and interact with a live proctor via your computer’s webcam and microphone. The exam is given using the same platform as an in-person testing center and the security requirements are the same. You have 3 hours to complete the exam. The proctor will complete the “check in” and help you access the exam and will monitor you throughout the examination—just like an in-person testing center. The difference is you will be in your own home using your computer or laptop.
How do I schedule the testing appointment?
After you submit the CRRN exam application, you will receive a notice to schedule via email. This email contains a link to the scheduling website. At this site, you will have the option to select a time and date for an in-person testing center or live remote proctoring. If you select remote proctoring, you will be directed to Examity where you will set up a profile and schedule your exam. Once you have completed scheduling, you will receive two emails: a confirmation email from Scantron which includes the password you will need to access the exam and a confirmation email from Examity which includes a link to initiate the testing appointment at the appropriate time. Be sure you read all the instructions and save both emails so you can access the exam at the appropriate time.
If you select in-person testing, you will receive a confirmation email from Scantron with the date, time, location, and other details. Be sure to save that email and carefully follow the instructions.
Is remote proctoring right for me?
Remote proctoring is a good choice if a local testing center is unavailable or your schedule does not allow time away from work to go to a testing center. It is also a way to decrease risk of COVID-19 exposure that some travel and shared spaces may have, keeping you and others safe.
Physical requirements
Before the start of the exam, you will be asked to scan the room with your webcam to show that you are alone and the area around you is clear. The webcam and microphone must remain on for the duration of the examination. You should make arrangements to be in a private, quiet area and remain uninterpreted throughout the exam. (If another person enters the area or there appears to be another disruption, the exam will end.)
Technical requirements
When you select remote proctoring, you will have the option of running a system check to confirm your computer meets these technical requirements. You may also check your system’s readiness at https://prod.examity.com/systemcheck/check.aspx.
